Sharm El Sheikh

Sharm el-Sheikh is an Egyptian resort on the Sinai Peninsula, which lies between the desert and the Red Sea. The city is known for its sheltered sandy beaches, clear water and coral reefs. There are numerous bars and restaurants on the palm-lined promenade of Naama Bay. The Ras Mohammed National Park is a popular diving destination with its species-rich marine life on the Shark and Yolanda reef and the wreck of the sunken Thistlegorm.Nabq Bay, where numerous luxury hotels are located, also offers easy access to diving and snorkeling sites such as the Gordon, Thomas and Jackson reefs in the Strait of Tiran. Bedouin items are sold in the old market of Sharm El-Maya, another beach area. The 600 km² Nabq nature reserve further north serves as a retreat for water birds and marine animals. A typical leisure activity is desert safaris, which are offered on foot, by camel or horse or in the dune vehicle or off-road vehicle. Excursions to the St. Catherine's Monastery at the foot of the biblical mountain Sinai are particularly popular.
