Geneva

Geneva is the capital of the Swiss canton of the same name. The city lies between the Alps and the Jura mountains in front of the spectacular backdrop of Mont Blanc on the southern tip of the extensive Lake Geneva. As the United Nations headquarters in Europe and the Red Cross, Geneva is a global diplomatic and banking center. The French influence is evident in language as well as in gastronomy and in artists' quarters such as Carouge.A well-known landmark is the 140 m high water fountain (Jet d'Eau) in Lake Geneva. The cobblestone old town stretches along the left bank of the Rhône. Here you will find, among others, the flower clock in the Jardin Anglais, the Cathedral of St. Peter - the Reformed main church of Geneva - and the café-lined Place du Bourg-de-Four. The luxury shops in the center sell high-quality Swiss watches and chocolates. On the right side of the river are clean parks and museums, such as the Musée d'Art et d'Histoire, with a vast collection of European art and archeology objects. The neighborhood of Les Pâquis features funky bistros, nightclubs and boutiques.
